Halloween is pretty much here, but for some of us that doesn’t mean much. Why is that? Well we’re too busy playing video games to care what’s happening around us. As a result, we may accidentally pass up the day in lieu of just playing something bright and cheery, but there are other options for us shut-ins that still want to celebrate Halloween with some good atmospheric games. Nintendo’s E3 conference this year was somewhat lacking. We saw New Super Mario Bros Wii, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Wii Fit Plus, the Wii Sensor (a baffling product that will make them millions), and finally one of the biggest surprises of the year, Metroid: Other M.
Before Metroid went into the 1st person perspective with Metroid Prime, the Metroid games were 2D platform shooters and they were stunningly awesome. Super Metroid is one of the best games on the SNES without question. What makes so many Metroid fans excited is that Metroid: Other M is a return to form of sorts with Samus going back to a 3rd person perspective. Even better is that the game is being developed by Team Ninja, the group responsible for the Ninja Gaiden series.

Alright, go buy Uncharted 2. I don’t even need to give you a full review at this point. This is the reason to own a PS3, this is the best game thus far this year, this is the game that has no glaring faults for me to pick out. Buy the game yourself, buy it for a loved one, request it for a charity, I don’t care what you do as long as it ends with Uncharted 2 being bought and played by somebody.

Not long ago I went ahead and gave my rundown of some Nintendo Wii games that are required for all owners of the system (and make for great gifts, too). Now it’s time to do the same with Nintendo’s other juggernaut, the scrappy little Nintendo DS. I received my DS during the first Christmas it was released but it wasn’t until the next November that I’d actually purchase a game for it. After that, man did the games get good. Most kids just want pets to play with and don’t understand the responsibility that comes with having a pet. Zhu Zhu Pets is a new toy line that has become very popular and solves that problem. It is essentially a hamster play set, but instead of real hamsters, there are battery operated ones.
Even though they aren’t real, the toys behave so realistically that they might as well be real.

With Nintendo trucking along on its two new consoles (the Wii and the DSi), there are rarely any times that a new Triple A title needs to come along (according to them anyway). The Wii already got its Zelda, its Mario, and its Smash Bros, so what are the chances we’ll get another huge title in any of those franchises?
