A week or so ago I was looking through my latest shipment of board games from Board Game Exchange and realized that I didn’t have any new ones left to play. It’d been a few months because I just had my first child in December so aside from lack of sleep I haven’t been able to dedicate a whole lot of time to playing game either.
Well- when I realized I didn’t have any games left to play I headed over to their website to see what was in my queue. To my surprise, that wasn’t able to happen because their site was reduced to one page with a very significant announcement that all board game lovers should be aware of!
Apparently Board Game Exchange is merging with BoardGameCo.com – which is a big big deal! This is the message on their website:
” Thank you for visiting – Board Game Exchange is announcing HUGE Improvements! In 2010, we started BGX with 75 titles. Over the last 7 years, our catalog grew to more than 900 titles. The next step is more like a massive leap! As we are growing to a catalog of more than 3,500 titles, and adding features like trading and purchasing that we’ve never been able to offer before.Starting in early 2018, BGX will become a part of BoardGameCo.com, the leading used board game distributor in the USA. With this venture, BGX customers will be able to:
1 – Choose from more than 3,500 titles; Have the option of purchasing their rented games at a discounted rate instead of returning them;
2 – Enjoy faster shipping and turn-around times
3 – Trade games for rental credits or store credits for games in the BoardGameCo.com catalog.
4 – Have a full time shipping and receiving staff with experienced shippers and better shipping rates.
5 – Have an easier online experience with an upgraded and enhanced website. In conjunction with BoardGameCo.com.
As the vision of BGX is now truly becoming a reality, your one-stop-destination for all of your board game rental, trading, and purchase needs starting in early 2018. In the meantime, BGX will be unable to service our existing and new clients until the inventories and systems are fully merged and are operating like a well-oiled machine.
There will be no more new shipments of BGX games as of December 15, 2017 to new customers. Stay tuned, and pardon our dust as BGX and BoardGameCo.com join forces to become your ultimate board game rental, trading, and purchasing destination. In the meantime, we’ll be posting regular updates on BoardGameExchange.com. Thanks again for your interest in BoardGameExchange, and we look forward to our Gran Re-Opening in early 2018!
So if you weren’t sure about having a membership with Board Game Exchange, you may want to reconsider now! You’ll have many more options to choose from once they’re back online. Feel free to leave your questions about this service below, I’ve been a subscriber for over a year now and have a lot of pros and cons to offer.
