Why Board Games Are Good for Your Health!

Now that we have entered 2017, chances are you have established some new goals for yourself. For most people, paying more attention to personal health is a popular goal to set. While everyone else subscribes to a gym membership and throws out everything with sugar in it- we have a better suggestion. Did you know playing board games on a frequent basis is really good for you?  Check out all the benefits below!

Have fun

As an adult, can you honestly say you still have fun? For most of us, our idea of fun is tied to the weekends, when we are free from the monotonous routines like work, cooking dinner, waking up early etc. Break those routines and start incorporating a weekly game night. You’ll be amazed by how much quicker the week goes by when you make a little time for yourself to laugh. Involve family, friends or even coworkers and start feeling the side effects of fun right away.

Keep your brain and memory sharp

Believe it or not, doing the same things day in and out do not do your memory any favors. By now your brain is trained to do what it needs to in order to get your laundry list of tasks done each week. By incorporating different board games, you’re forcing your mind to expand beyond it’s usual duties.
Your adult mind isn’t the only one that benefits. Assuming you’re playing with your children each week, they too will benefit mentally from the change of pace.

Prevent cognitive decline

There are increasing studies out there coming out about board games playing a role in preventing cognitive diseases like Alzheimer’s and Dementia. Keeping your brain working, learning and engaging in different activities is much like working out a muscle. If you stop, it will lose its strength. It’s important to note that playing games won’t ensure you won’t get sick but you can at least take an extra precaution 🙂
Not to menton, our society is very ‘screen centric’. Giving your eyes and brain a break from the screens you are constantly surrounded by can only do your entire body and soul good.

Cut the stress

Wouldn’t it be nice to let go of everything that bothers you, even if it’s just for an hour or two at a time? What better way to blow off some steam than with a trivial mental exercise! Even the most competitive people can enjoy the aftermath of using energy on something with no consequences. Relax, take it easy- spend your time unlocking your mind.

Quality time with friends & family

When you’re caught in the middle of an endless weekday routine, I’m sure you’re like many others who find themselves wishing they could just spend time with loved ones. It would be so much better for everyone if there was a dedicated time each week to have some real quality time with those you care about.
Make an effort to plan a weekly or bi-weekly gathering with your closest friends and family. Alternate game-play locations to make it convenient. Plan on out food and easy snacks to minimize prep related stress. Have someone different source and pick the board game each week. There are so many ways to not only make this frequent event happen, but easy and fun-centric too!

All in all, incorporating board games into your life is going to make a big difference. Take it from me!
